filing an insurance claim? here's what to do next.

filing a claim is stressful. we're here to walk you through it, advocate for you, and make sure you get what you're owed. call us first — we'll handle the rest.

after hours? call us anyway and leave a message. for emergencies, you can also file directly through your carrier's app — we'll follow up first thing in the morning.

How We Handle Your Claim

you're not navigating this alone. here's exactly what happens when you call us.

01

Call Us First

before you do anything else, call or text us at (336) 743-0000. we'll walk you through exactly what to do next based on your specific situation. if it's after hours, leave a message — we'll call you back first thing.

02

Document Everything

take photos and videos of all damage before any cleanup or repairs. get the other driver's information if it's an auto accident. write down what happened while it's fresh. this documentation protects you throughout the process.

03

We File Together

we help you file the claim — making sure all the details are accurate and complete. a well-filed claim moves faster and has fewer complications. we know what the carrier needs and how to present it.

04

We Follow Up for You

once the claim is filed, we don't disappear. we track the progress, follow up with the adjuster, and keep you informed at every step. if something stalls, we push. that's what having an advocate means.

05

Resolution and Review

once your claim is resolved, we review your coverage to make sure you're still properly protected going forward. sometimes a claim reveals a gap — we'll catch it and fix it before it becomes a problem again.

Claims Tips for NC Residents

nc's laws make some of these especially important. read these before you need them.

Don't Admit Fault at the Scene

in NC's contributory negligence system, even a casual 'i'm sorry' can be used against you. be polite, exchange information, but let the insurance companies determine fault.

File a Police Report for Auto Accidents

NC law requires a police report for accidents with injuries or property damage over $1,000. even for minor accidents, a police report creates an official record that supports your claim.

Don't Sign Anything from the Other Party's Insurer

the other driver's insurance company may contact you quickly with a settlement offer. don't sign anything or give a recorded statement without talking to us first.

Keep Receipts for Temporary Expenses

if you need a rental car, hotel, or temporary repairs, keep all receipts. your policy may cover these additional living expenses or transportation costs.

Don't Wait to Report Damage

even if damage seems minor, report it promptly. delayed reporting can complicate your claim and some policies have reporting deadlines.

Your Premium Won't Necessarily Increase

with claim rate protection, your home premium won't go up just because you file a claim. and accident forgiveness means your first at-fault auto accident won't raise your rate.

What to Expect After Filing

every claim is different, but here's a typical timeline so you know what's happening at each stage.

Claim Filed

Day 1

Your claim is submitted and assigned a claim number. You'll receive confirmation via email or the mobile app. We have a copy too.

Adjuster Assigned

1–3 Business Days

An adjuster is assigned to your claim. They'll contact you to schedule an inspection or request additional documentation.

Inspection & Estimate

3–7 Business Days

The adjuster inspects the damage (in person or via photos) and prepares an estimate. For auto claims, you may be directed to a preferred repair shop.

Review & Approval

5–14 Business Days

The estimate is reviewed against your policy coverage. If approved, you'll receive a settlement offer. We review it with you to make sure it's fair.

Payment Issued

7–21 Business Days

Once approved, payment is issued minus your deductible. Direct deposit is fastest. For home claims, payment may be issued jointly with your mortgage company.

Claim Closed

Varies

After repairs are complete and all payments are settled, the claim is closed. We do a coverage review to make sure you're still properly protected.

Not sure where your claim stands? Call or text us at (336) 743-0000 and we'll check the status for you immediately.

Claims FAQ

answers to the questions we hear most often during the claims process.

Why Claims Are Where a Local Agency Earns Their Keep

anyone can sell you a policy. the real test of an agency is what happens when you need to use it.

when you file a claim through an online portal or a 1-800 number, you're a policy number. nobody is following up. nobody is pushing for a faster resolution. nobody is making sure the adjuster's estimate is fair.

when you file through us, you have an advocate. we know your policy inside and out. we know what's covered and what's not. we follow up with the adjuster, we push when things stall, and we make sure you're treated fairly.

and because we have features like claim rate protection and accident forgiveness, filing a claim doesn't have to mean higher premiums. that's not something every carrier offers — and it's not something an online quote tool will tell you about.
